1.Have 2 timelines.

Instead of just "lifting a clip up" now lift it up to a new timeline.. faster and much cleaner.

2. Use multipule timelines to sort your clips, So instead of having sorted all the clips in one timeline, you could have it laid out like this:

Timeline 1: lake shots

Timeline 2: Ice shots

Timeline 3: Car shots

Now you can easily finde your shots fast and only look at the good stuff.
